The Fault in Our Stars(2014)
This movie is truly worth every one of its 125 minutes, including the closing credits, which you'll need to dry your eyes and reflect on what you just experienced. It tells the inspiring story of two young people who, like us, are in the process of dying. However, Hazel Grace and Augustus are more acutely aware of this reality, as Hazel's terminal cancer has given their "eternity" an expiration date.
The film takes viewers on an emotional roller-coaster, sharing in the profound feelings and attitudes toward life and love that the two teens possess. It serves as a key to unlocking many doors in the minds of its audience. We are guided through these doors by a cast of actors who portray their characters with remarkable sensitivity and depth.
The writing and directing are brilliantly executed, evoking sympathy for every character, even when they are in opposition. You find yourself unable to take sides because you empathize with both perspectives. And as the credits roll—like the tears on your cheeks—you come to realize that these opposing views ultimately converge into a single understanding: life.
